5 Minute Core Workout [You Can Do Anywhere]


Everyone loves a good core workout, right? Even better, one you can complete in as little as 5 minutes. I’m all about efficiency these days, and this quick workout gets the job done.

I really recognized the importance of core strength after having kids, as I talked about in my Workout Like A Mother blog post. I will spare you all the details again, but I had to take some major time to really focus on core strength.

Your core is responsible for basic every day movement, from bending to tie your shoes to sitting in a chair to simply standing upright. A few items that come to mind right now is the vacuuming, dusting, laundry - those repetitive household chores that seem to never end!

Your core helps you with balance and stability, so to strengthen your core is to help decrease your risk of falls. This is especially important to note as we age.

I really found yoga and pilates to be a fun way to incorporate core work, however, I will admit, I don’t always have time to jump into an hour long class. To be quite honest, you can really fatigue your core muscles fairly quickly if you take little rest between exercises and take your time in completing the repetitions.

This is why I developed this 5 minute core workout consisting of 7 exercises that vary in difficulty. Count me in for mountain climbers, bicycle crunches, bird dogs, standard crunches, jack knives, plank walkouts, and the standard plank! This workout can be very easily modified depending on your skill/fitness level. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
